As I am still pondering the possibilities of a New Year’s Eve makeup tutorial look (I’m thinking lots of sparkly stuff), I came across a new MAC Cosmetics collection list, and some of this stuff looks pretty cool.

MAC Studio Fix Lash Mascara

For the mascara fans, MAC has a new one called Studio Fix Lash Mascara! ($13) The wand looks a lot like the Cover Girl Lash Blast Length wand, dontcha think? I can’t get a good enough look at the puny pic, but I want to check this one out in person for sure.

MAC Love Lace Collection 2009

Love Lace

I looooove lace. Obviously MAC loooves lace, too. The new MAC Love Lace collection is all about muted blues, whites, a nude lip with some type of black lacey clothing or accessory to compliment it. About 4 or 5 years ago, I attended a MAC pro demonstration on how to apply lace to the eyes with lash glue. It was quite cool, but when I tried it at home, the lace hurt my eyes.. I guess I’ll have to try it again. Experiement around with it, it’s really easy to apply, just getting used to feeling it on your skin is the hard part.

MAC Warm and Cozy Collection

Warm & Cozy

I’ve heard of comfort food, but comfort cosmetics? I can believe it! Just as a nice warm bowl of steaming chili can make me feel all cuddly inside, so can a new lipgloss or blush. Call me crazy. The new MAC collection, Warm & Cozy has some lovely deep browns, some snuggly neutrals and once I get paid.. this stuff is going to be shipped. I am always looking for good browns!

Let me start first off by saying that I had been using this cloth medical tape method for several years when applying eyeshadow, I had forgotten about it, then I saw a few You Tube makeup tutorials where tape was used, but it was the gift wrapping kind, not the kind that is meant for your skin. I don’t know what kind of chemicals or toxins are in scotch tape (there may not be any, who knows) but I am not using scotch tape on my face. Cloth medical tape is gentle and meant to be put on your skin, it’s very easy to take off. This tape method not only creates a clean look, but it helps the blending process go a little faster and easier. It is SUPER fun to do, too!

Nexcare Medical Tape
I like the Nexcare Gentle Paper tape by 3M. It’s safe for sensitive skin, which is good, because we are using it near our eyes.

MAC Pure White Pigment & Sephora Lip Last

I couldn’t find my mixing medium (Makeup Forever brand) so I thought I’d try something a little stronger, which is Sephora brand’s Lip Last fixative (no longer available). I originally bought it to seal in my eyebrows, but it didn’t do a good job like my favorite Irene Gari Lipstick Sealer at #3.50, which works just as good as Benefit Cosmetics $30 She-Laq sealer.

To apply the medical tape, I placed it from the outer corner of my eye, to the end of my eyebrow (see pic below). I pressed it down gently with my finger.

I dropped a couple drops of the sealer on the back of my hand and mixed a little bit of the MAC Pure White pigment with it. It should be creamy and not runny or lumpy. I used a flat, round, synthetic concealer brush to apply the wet mixture to my entire eye area. It’s okay to get the mixture on the tape, it’s waterproof and the wet mixture will not seep through.

MAC Pure White Pigment
MAC Pure White Pigment

The white matte pigment creates a really nice base for creating dramatic looks with bright colors. It also serves as a highligher color for under the eyebrow.

The brush I used to apply the MAC Basic Red pigment is the Bare Escentuals flathead shadow brush.

Bare Escentuals Flathead Eyeshadow BrushMAC Basic Red Pigment

I carefully dipped the brush into the pigment and patted it down on the inside of the pigment’s lid to take off the excess. I patted the color with the brush at a horizontal angle and worked my way around the crease a few times until the color was packed into the crease.

MAC Pure White Pigment & MAC Basic Red Pigment

It doesn’t matter if it’s perfect right now, you are going to blend it next. Using a few more brushes.

MAC Pure White Pigment & MAC Basic Red Pigment

I started blending with the MAC 225 Big Fluff brush first, in a circular motion, then back and forth, until it looked blended in. I used the MAC 224 for the final blending. Make sure you do blend right over the medical tape to make sure the shadow colors reach the edge.

MAC Basic Red Pigment & MAC Burnt Burgundy Pigment

I cleaned off my synthetic concealer brush that I used to apply the white pigment and wet it again to use with the MAC Burnt Burgundy pigment. I then patted that color down on the lid, not going over the crease, but going over the tape to make sure the shadow color reached the edge.

MAC 224 & 225 Brushes - Trucco Moonshade Eyeshadow

I really love Trucco Cosmetics Moonshade Matte black eyeshadow. I used the MAC pencil brush to apply the color to the outer edge and across into the crease.

Blended Eye with Medical Tape

I used my MAC 224 brush to blend the black shadow into my crease. Once you are satisfied with your blending, it’s time to rip off the tape!! This part is so fun!

Blended eyeshadow look using medical tape

See the clean line from the corner of the eye to the brow? No mess and it was easy!

Blended Eyeshadow with medical tapeBlended Eyeshadow

I wanted to do a fun eye liner look using my Bobbi Brown gel liner in Black Ink. I winged the corners out under the line that was created with the medical tape, and after I lined my waterline with the gel, I continued to wing that edge out a bit.

Biotherm Eyeshadow 425

I was looking for a soft, bright burgundy color to compliment the look, and I found a shadow that is probably discontinued from Biotherm. I applied that shadow color under my waterline area with the flat-head shadow brush that still had left-over red pigment on it. I applied two coats of Maybelline Lash Stylist.

Now that the eyes are done (whew! that took a while) I am ready for highlighter and blush. I really love the Milani brand blushes. I found that the brand is now sold in Target stores, so please do buy whatever you like from Milani, everything I’ve tried so far has been really good, especially the eyeshadows and blushes.

Milani Blush in Pink Craze
Wet N Wild Highlighting Powder

I applied Wet N’ Wild highlighting powder above my cheeks, on my forehead and dabbed it very lightly all over. I then applied a generous amount of the Milani Pink Craze blush to the apples of my cheeks.

MAC Violetta Lipstick - Smashbox Pout Gloss - Urban Decay lip liner

I applied the Urban Decay 24/7 lip liner in “Naked” and blended with my finger. I applied the vibrant MAC Pro lipstick in Violetta, and a nice creamy coat of Smashbox “Pout” lip gloss to top it all off.

I got a little artsy fartsy and took a MAC Cosmetics style photo of myself. I LOVE the way my lashes turned out! I wanted to celebrate the cutting of my own bangs. I used the “twist and cut” method, which worked pretty good. I found the method on one of those Wiki-How pages.. scary, but it turned out! Hope you guys enjoyed this, I know I did!

Review for Maybelline Lash Stiletto

Maybelline Lash Stiletto

So, since I am fearful that my “BFF in a tube”, Maybelline Last Stylist could be very well discontinued, I decided to finally try Maybelline Lash Stiletto. See my older post about it here: http://kristadior.kristardesign.com/2009/01/15/maybelline-lash-stylist-discontinued-stiletto-is-replacing-it/

I thought the Stiletto brush was going to be rubberized, or comb-like. I saw that in the photo, the brush was red, so I automatically thought that it was some sort of rubber type brush. Nope. It was a regular bristle brush that tapers down towards the tip of the brush. After applying several coats of Lash Stiletto, I became frustrated.. where were my lashes? They were very thin and wimpy. I started to panic a little, thinking that my lashes had fallen out during the night, but I grabbed my Lash Stylist mascara, quickly swiped a few strokes over the top of Stiletto.. and shazam.. my lashes were back. ::whew::

I am sorry.. I like thick lashes. Thick and long lashes. That is what Lash Stylist gives me that no other mascara has ever given me.

Maybelline Lash Stylist Sighting!

NOTE:
The post below is old. The link to drugstore.com does not work.

My friend saw Lash Stylist at her local drug store.. so there is a possibility that it’s still being sold in the stores. It could also be that there was a shortage and it is now just coming back in stock. WHO knows!!

There is currently a BOGO on drugstore.com for Lash Stylist.. so stock up!!

First off, let me just tell you that Maybelline finally emailed me back. They told me that the stores are the ones choosing to not re-order Lash Stylist… and I am sorry, but I don’t believe that one bit. How could stores across the nation all decide not to carry the same product? If Target is affiliated with Rite Aid, then maybe I would understand, but my mom has gone through hell in a handbasket looking at drug stores for my mascara. Even my friends have looked around. I think that (this is just me) someone or a group of individuals got hurt using it and are suing Maybelline. Lawsuits are usually frequent in the world of cosmetics.. I know this first-hand and I could tell you stories that would make you laugh for weeks.. people sue for the dumbest shit. So,  I will give this about 6 more months and if I still do not see my Lash Stylist in the store, I will assume some idiot poked their eye out.

On a much lighter note, one of the most amazing limited edition collections is coming to MAC. Hello Kitty. Yes.. effing Hello Kitty. That cute little pussy has been around since the year I was born in 1976, and I am truly excited to be invited to the unveiling of the product line at the MAC store at Valley Faire mall in San Jose. Once I get my paws on it, I will be posting pics. I don’t even know what it looks like, to be honest.

Due to hard economic turmoil.. I haven’t been makeup shopping, so I am sorry there haven’t been much updates. I saw the Dame Edna line at MAC and I wanted to cry.. I love that drag queen! What MAC needs to do is push the limits with Porn Star limited edition body foundation.. or something like that.  Jenna Jamison line? Dude.. I know marketing.

By the way, MAC has updated their site and it’s looking amazing so far. MAC Cosmetics

Urban Decay. Ok.. so I love the line, and I really love the Primer Potion. What could be better than Primer Potion with a bit of sparkle and a dash of color? YESSS.. it’s here.

Urban Decay Primer Potion Sin

It’s called Eyeshadow Primer Potion – Sin. Here is the marketing text for your enjoyment:

What it does:
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion – Sin combines incredible staying power with a shimmering champagne hue that complements almost any eyeshadow. This two-in-one beauty miracle can be worn alone to give eyes just a hint of tint for when you’re in a hurry or in need of that “no makeup” look.

I am SURE this is going to rock.. but you never know. I am going to purchase ASAP.

Welp.. hoping everyone is having a good year so far. If you hear about an amazing new product.. let me know!

Updated Note: (Jan 02,2010) Take a look at this post: Maybelline Lash Stylist Reincarnated in Cat Form – Hypercurl. This mascara is only available in Malaysia for some reason. I do see Lash Stylist on Ebay: Maybelline Lash Stylist

Due to the popularity of this post, I have revised it with links to updates on new information regarding Maybelline Lash Stylist Mascara. Please read user comments below for more updated information

Looked everywhere at Target for my “BFF in a tube”, Lash Stylist by Maybelline. Nowhere to be found. I called my mother immediately, who lives about 30 miles away in another town, and I asked her to go to her nearst drug store and search for my trusty mascara and to buy at least two tubes. “Nope”, she said when she called me back, “They don’t have it, and I checked Target and Longs.” I went online and had a virtual fit. I found the mascara on beauty.com, and I noticed it was on sale. Unfortunately, I can’t find the mascara online right now. I haven’t checked ebay.. =(

So I ordered two tubes along with a bunch of really expensive Frederik Fekkai hair stuff, and ripped open the package to make sure my “BFF in a tube” arrived safely. Yup.. it was fine, and I had not used it for about a month since I could not find it anywhere.. and I noticed that.. nothing, nothing, nothing compares to it. I couldn’t believe how much better my lashes looked, and they even looked a lot darker. I was so happy, yet scared that my little friend in a tube is going to go bye-bye.

Sure enough, I saw the new Maybelline Stiletto Ultimate Length Washable Mascara (Say that 10 times fast) and I am angered that my little lovely Lash Stylist is going to bid me one last farewell.

Maybelline Lash Stiletto

Well, there it is. Here is the description:

The only mascara that does for lashes what stilettos do for legs.

-The Grip & Extend brush grasps each lash and coats from every angle
-Elastic formula stretches lashes for provocative length
-Pro-Vitamin B-5 formula conditions and smoothes for black-patent shine
-Contact lens safe and Ophthalmologist tested

Ok.. so nothing special here. The brush is red, which is hot, but not making ME hot.. so I wrote a letter to our friends at Maybelline about how pissed I am. hahha.. well, I was nice, don’t worry. I’ll let you know what happens.

UPDATE: I have tried and approve of Lancome’s Fatale mascara. It gives similar results than that of Lash Stylist, the only thing I don’t like about it is the glossy finish and the comb does not do a very good job of distributing the product evenly. As far as the end result goes.. it’s almost the same. Fatale is expensive, but I found a tube on ebay a little cheaper than drug store prices. If you have found anything similar to Lash Stylist, let me know and I can post it here.

Kiss Me Mascara

This is the hyped up mascara that creates “tubes” around your eyelashes. I first heard about it in a meeting with Beauty.com at work, and I really didn’t think it would work (I’m sometimes skeptical about mascara claims). The packaging is quite impressive; the mascara comes in a neat little metal tube with a screw top lid and the mascara tube itself is a really cool metallic silver.. it’s pretty hardcore. The brush itself has wide spaced bristle sections, which is something I do not prefer. The formula is very wet and I found it quite difficult to apply the first time. The trick is to wiggle the brush at the base of the lashline to get the tubes to form, I had to apply four coats before I was satisfied with the lash look. I felt like the tips of my lashes were really thin and puny, not full, so I ended up applying a coat of my favorite Maybelline Lash Stylist mascara to only the tips. I was not exactly impressed with the look.. it made my lashes very separated and fake-looking. (fake in a bad way)

I am a fan of full and thick lashes, not separated and thin lashes, so I won’t repurchase this mascara. When I washed my face using the Philosophy Purity foaming face wash, I had to manually pull the tubes off with my fingers and wash them down the drain. They looked like black sea moneys in the sink (if you know what sea monkeys look like, you can totally imagine the sight of this) and after several swishes of water around the sink, they finally washed out to sea.

My verdict: I am staying with Lash Stylist by Maybelline. I may also try to apply the Kiss Me mascara with my Lash Stylist wand to see if that makes a difference.

Makeup Forever HD Foundation

This is the stuff!!! I purchased the HD powder not too long ago, which I do really like (Check out my blog about it here: HD Ladies! I just had to try the foundation, which was readily available at Sephora… around 40 bucks.. but luckily I was able to try it out in the store to see its magic. The foundation is full coverage, but very natural looking. There were tons of shade choices to choose from, and you only need a tiny drop of it because it goes a very long way. Once I applied it all over and let it dry, I applied the HD powder and I looked completely matte and ready for the camera. I will have to say that this formula reminds me very much of the Revlon colorstay formula from back in the day (the 1990s!) but woe-is-me, nothing will be as good as ColorStay circa 1990s. Anyway, it’s a good replacement product.

The Verdict: My new favorite foundation. Looks AWESOME in pictures. Looks good in person. Goes on smooth and stays smooth. No breakouts for my senstive skin.

Mascara hunt gone wrong…L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara

I used to think Long’s Drugs had everything… ughhh.

I saw an amazing commercial starring one of my favorite icons, Linda Evangelista, for the new L’Oreal Beauty Tubes Mascara. Practically jumping up and down, I immediately went out to the nearest drug store to find this stuff.

L'Oreal Beauty Tubes Mascara

I’ve heard of the Kiss Me mascara, which is supposed to create “tubes” around each individual lash and create the appearance of false lashes. I am usually skeptical with claims that cosmetics companies make about mascara… but I really wanted to try this! I looked around at Long’s Drugs, there was an entire wall of L’Oreal mascara, my vision was blurring from all of the choices circling my head. I couldn’t quite remember what the tube looked like, all I know is that it was double ended. One side was a primer and the other side was the mascara… ughhh.. my fiancee was growing impatient in the line at the checkout and I knew that I had to make my choice immediately. I picked up whatever looked good and ran to the checkout.

L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara

I ended up with L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara.. very strange brush that looked like a caveman weapon. I thought it might be similar to my absolute fave, Maybelline Lash Stylist, but sadly, it didn’t even come close. The brush was floppy and a little hard to control. My lashes looked horrible.. yes, I hate to say it, horrible. I looked like a psycho killer doll with lashes that stuck together in big pointy clumps. Not loving.

I am going to Target to see if I can find these beauty tubes.. I must know the magic of the tubes. Pray for me!! haha

Seche Vite Top Coat for Nails:

Seche Vite

I have acrylic gel nails and normally my nail polish doesn’t chip at all on synthetic nails. I have trouble getting nail polish to dry and I work with computers all day and night.. so if I want to change my color, I feel as if I can’t use the computer all day!(or use the restroom..)

So, I heard about the Seche Vite top coat on ebay, with rave reviews. I found a bottle at Target in the Professional Nail section of cosmetics and purchased it at $9.98. I found this to be pretty expensive for a clear top coat. I even have trouble buying OPI at $7 dollars! I wanted to give this top coat a whirl since I heard so much about it on here and I have ZERO time for drying.

It’s pretty thick like honey, but it def. makes my nails look awesome. It dried my nails in about 60 seconds. I was able to touch nail to nail and they didn’t stick together or feel tacky. The downside to this product is that it peels terribly. I think the product is a good emergency item to have if you need your nails dried in 30 seconds… but prepare later on for the peeling.

Urban Decay Primer Potion:

Urban Decay Primer Potion

This is one of my “Can’t Live Without” = CLW beauty products. If this product ever becomes discontinued, I will hang myself because life won’t be worth living. Ok, that is really bad of me to say, but let’s just say that I will be really pissed if this product goes bye-bye any time soon.
UDPP is the acronym for this product that I will use throughout the blog.

UDPP is an eyeshadow primer, with staying powers beyond anything you can imagine. The product looks small, but it lasts for two whole years! I have tried many products that claim to keep the shadow on, but all have failed except for UDPP. MAC paints.. you can keep those.. because they never have worked for me. With UDPP, my eyeshadow does not crease, get greasy or fade away.

How do you use it? Well, I normally place some product on my finger (clean finger!) and pat it on my entire eyelid. I don’t use a lot, just a little is enough. When the product seems to be getting low, I start using cotton swabs to get more product out.

Maybelline Lash Stylist Mascara:

Maybelline Lash Stylist

This has got to be the most underrated mascara in the world! This is another CLW for my collection. The brush looks like something that Satan might torture hell’s “noobs” with, but it’s just a mascara wand, it’s just not as fluffy and cute as the ones you grew up with.

I wish I had a video of how I apply this mascara, but I am on vacation and lazy at this point, so I will try to explain. I start at the base of my lashes and wiggle the brush upward as I comb it through. I comb it several times and I do not add a second coat. I do the bottom lashes very carefully.. just take your time and practice and you will get good at using the special comb brush. This formula is thick, so the mascara will only last you a month, but the price is nice.. around 5 bucks.. and you will have Saturday night – cocktail slammin’ lashes.
