Luxury Holiday Cosmetics – New Guerlain, Dior

On December 1, 2009, in Cosmetics, by Krista Dior

I know that Cyber Monday is supposed to be the day that kicks off the huge internet sales, but I am gonna do something a little different. I may be kind and post some awesome coupon codes this week, but for now, let’s oogle over some holiday treats that might be out of reach.. but are pretty to look at!

The Guerlain Collection Imperiale 2009 is drop dead hot.

Guerlain Collection Imperial Christmas 2009

Eclat Imperial Sublime Radiant Powder

What is this!? I love it sooo much I want to eat it. It’s the Eclat Imperial Sublime Radiant Powder ($85 at Nordstrom.com). According to Guerlain, this product is: “An illuminating powder that graces the skin with a gentle and sheer veil of ‘diamond’ reflections.” This is NOT a face powder! This product is intended for use on the body, like the shoulders, arms, hair, etc. to add sparkle.

Guerlain Meteorites Voyage Imperial

This is the Guerlain ‘Meteorites Voyage’ Compact ($170) You are seriously not going to want to drop this compact! Studded with Swarovski crystals, this compact is going to make a stunning gift! The powder itself is a face brightener, to help create a flawless look to the skin. This product is also available in a less expensive black compact with white rhinestones:  Guerlain ‘Meteorites’ Illuminating Pearls ($53)

Guerlain Le Rouge G de Guerlain Lipstick

Gorgeous lipstick case! This is the Guerlain ‘Le Rouge G de Guerlain’ Lipstick, available in two shades: Grace and Gems. ($45 each) Nordstrom.com says: “A precious ruby powder interacts with daylight to reveal spectacular radiance unachieved to date. Lips are immediately defined, smoothed, plumped and hydrated. Nestled in its original case designed by the jeweller Lorenz Baumer, Rouge G has become a classic in refinement and modernity. Elegant and unique, this holiday’s limited edition is enhanced with a black jewel clasp.

Guerlain Le 2 de Guerlain Mascara

I’ve never used a mascara this fancy before! This is the Guerlain ‘Le 2 de Guerlain’ Mascara. ($35) This mascara includes two ends with different color options. One end is an ultra-black mascara, while the other end is a gold glitter mascara for use on the tips of your lashes to create a dramatic effect.

The Christmas 2009 Dior Collection is full of surprises!

Dior Christmas 2009 Look

This look is amazing! I want the hair, eyes, everything. What is that jewel she’s holding?? Well, it’s the Cristal Boreal Gloss Jewel! ($80)

Dior Cristal Boreal
Dior Cristal Boreal

This is a gleaming pendant necklace inspired by the “Crystale Boreale,” a legendary Swarovsky crystal-studded pendant designed for Christian Dior in 1955.

Dior Deluxe Travel Palette Dior Holiday Express Travel Palette

Two holiday travel palettes from Dior to drool over ($75):  The first featured palette consists of the following: six eyeshadows, a DiorBlush, an all over face highlighter and deluxe miniatures of Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect in Organdi Pink 257 and Diorshow Iconic Mascara in Black 090. The second palette features: six eyeshadows, a Diorblush, an all over face highlighter, and deluxe miniatures of Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect, and Diorshow Iconic Mascara.

I just love these rare and beautiful holiday collections, but geez, I will really have to beg Santa this year just to get one of these! ;)

My picks: Comb Mascaras & Face Shimmers

On April 22, 2009, in Cosmetics, by Krista Dior

It might be time to start looking for a replacement for the $7 dollar Lash Stylist by Maybelline, since I haven’t been given a def. answer as to the fate of my utmost favorite mascara. So here is a list of comb mascaras I am willing to try and maybe some of you already have.. please post a comment if you like or hate any of these!!

Lancôme FATALE Exceptional Volume Sculpting 3D Comb-Mascara ($23)

Lancome Fatale Exceptional Volume Sculpting 3d Comb Mascara

Macy’s says: Sculpt your lashes with exceptional volume. Glamorous lashes to die for. Instantly power up lashes to over-the-top, voluptuous volume. Unique Ampliform 3D Comb coats and sculpts with one dip and a single stroke. Filtex™ formula with Silicone wraps lashes in Lancôme’s most potent volume ever.

My thoughts: It got good reviews on Macys.com and also was an Insider’s Choice beauty winner. I really like the fact that the brush has a short side and a long side.. I guess one for application and one for combing the product through the lashes. The only down side is that it’s $23 bucks.. quite a lot more than I want to spend on a mascara.

Clinique ‘High Definition Lashes’ Brush Then Comb Mascara ($14)

Clinique High Definition Lashes Comb Mascara

My thoughts: I’ve never liked any Clinique mascara that I’ve tried through the many, many years that my mother has brought home the “free gift” bags from Macy’s. I always felt like the mascara was really watery and left my lashes limp and wimpy. Who knows, maybe they have changed?? Unfortunately when you try on mascara in the store, they give you a default wand, and you won’t be able to get the full effects of the mascara.

Lancôme CILS DESIGN PRO Custom Design Double Mascara ($35)

Lancome Cils Design Pro Custom Double Mascara

Macy’s says: Transform your eyes…with a true-false lash effect.Create designer lashes in just two easy steps! Step 1: Define & Lengthen. The patented Hi-Pro Stretch Brush™ instantly lengthens and defines true lashes.Step 2: Custom Design Lash EffectThe new exclusive Design Pro™ Mini Comb enhances hard-to-reach outer corner lashes for a beautiful, wide-eyed, false-lash look.

My thoughts: Ok.. this is just ridiculous. $35 dollars?!?!?! Ok, does this thing also do liposuction? I am freaking out over here. Although the product got excellent reviews, I am still like mouth-dropping pissed.. why is it so expensive??? Because the “mini-comb” is trademarked? Give me a break. Please prove to me that this is worth the money and I might invest in a few tubes. Post pics. I need to see this to believe it.

NEXT.. on to face shimmers.

Dior “Golden Dior” Necklace ($55)

Dior Golden Dior Necklace

My Thoughts: Now this is something worth spending a little money on! Not only can you wear this as a necklace.. a freaking Dior necklace.. but inside is a creamy golden highlighter that you can use on your eyes, lips and cheeks. The whole thing is all wrapped up in a nice travel pouch. Cute gift, cute gift for yourself! I think this is a must-have for Dior fans!

Christian Dior Night Diamond Face Powder ($59)

Dior Night Diamond Face Powder

Sephora says: Dior Night Diamond is a true makeup jewel that gives every face mega-star power. The silky powder is laced with shimmer and imparts an all-over shimmer. The ebony compact is studded with crystal-like gems and is paired with a plush brush, both of which are tucked in a black suede pouch.

My thoughts: To die for. I love the jeweled case, love the brush, beautiful powder. Something you would feel proud to use and pull out of your makeup bag. Nice summer product!!

Laura Mercier Mosaic Shimmer Bloc ($38)

Laura Mercier Mosaic Shimmer Bloc

Sephora says: Laura Mercier Mosaic Shimmer Bloc contains light-reflecting properties that blend together to give the skin a healthy all-over glow. Arriving in a fresh, floral design, it adds a youthful, natural glow to the face for an effortlessly luminous, fresh look.

My thoughts: I am a total sucker for cute stuff, and this is adorable! Laura Mercier is famous for their shimmer blocks / bricks, whatever you want to call them, so I am assuming this is just as good as the award-winning shimmer products they have had in the past. Plus, you can probably use the pink color as a blush, so it’s a multi-use product, which is good! Price isn’t too bad, but I think these compacts will last a really long time.

Last but not least.. DIOR!!! Hugs, kisses, stars and confetti for Dior. The 2009 Spring collection is described on dior.com as:

This spring, Dior creates a look in honor of the Parisian woman of the 60’s with a timeless and ultra-chic collection.

The collection introduces makeup “classics” with a wide range of “nude chic” shades to enhance women’s natural beauty.

The new collection offers expert products to perfect and highlight the complexion. Eyes are adorned with an array of taupes, browns and beiges. Lips are wearing delicate beige or light pink shades.

Dior 2009 Spring Collection

So, what do you gals think? Can you handle the bright lips this Spring season? Are you gonna go for it? With all the bright lips and cheeks, I am beginning to wonder if I even need to splurge in the shopping malls.. I already have all of this stuff. Doesn’t hurt to add a bit to the collection, right? We can also go recession chic and dive to the drug stores!

My mini haul nearly broke the bank…

On August 20, 2008, in Cosmetics, by Krista Dior

Is it just me who believes that the “D” in Dior represents DIVINE? No.. not Divine as in Mrs. Turnblad rocking the high arched brows Divine.. I mean.. the definition of the word Divine. Luscious, lovely.. OMG.

My best friend Kat and I crawled away from the kids for a moment to lavish ourselves in the Pleasanton Stoneridge Mall’s only gem.. the Nordstroms cosmetics department, where fresh, bright white teeth are there to greet us, and flawlessly concealed skin is just a few feet in front of us. This is heaven. Ahhh yes, not even the man above (baby Jesus) could understand the feeling of sitting in the makeup artist’s chair, being pampered and petted with a squirrel hair brush.

I floated over to the Dior counter, where amazing airbrushed photos of models were whispering to me, “This lipgloss was made for YOU.” I believed it. Every word. Sixty dollars later, I was holding a bag of two of the finest Dior glosses known to woman.

Dior lipgloss

Diorshow Gloss Show. $27 dollars each. .21 oz.

Wow. So these are actually worth 30 bucks each. No freaking kidding! Even the packaging was impressive. If you want high shine and a shitload of shimmer, then these beauties are for YOU. I recommend them all.. if you can afford it, get them all. I was only able to purchase Sofia Silver, which is like snow for your lips and perfect for adding a highlight over dark colors or adding shimmer to a matte shade. Charlotte Moka is shown above. It’s a coppery shimmer that is very sheer, and looks really good with a mahogany lip liner.

Do me a favor and at least go try these on. They should be available at Sephora and Nordstroms (and that shitty place called Macys)

I scurried over to the NARS counter before I ended up handing my paycheck over to Dior.. which I would gladly do if I won the lottery. (I actually forgot that I had a Lottery scratcher in my purse until I just typed that. I just scratched it off and I just won $10.. no joke)

Anyway, I headed over to NARS and met a lovely makeup artist by the name of Ben. He knew my correct foundation shade the minute the slimming Nordstrom lighting hit my face. He just knew I was newly crowned Miss. Deauville the moment he set his eyes on me. Deauville is my shade from now until forever. I wasn’t a fan of powder foundation until Ben slapped me in the face with it.

NARS

Can you believe this stuff has UVA and UVB protection? SPF 12 and PA++ to boot.

$45 dollars, mirror, velvet application pad, refillable compact.. pricey but very much worth it. Years ago, I was loving MAC Studio Fix, but I broke out within minutes of use. Deauville is my new best friend (sorry, Kat) it’s better than Studio Fix and doesn’t throw a pimple party all over my face.

I didn’t want to walk away from NARS without making a two item purchase… hahah (Salesperson lingo) My wallet saving tip of the day is: only buy the products that made the biggest difference. The blush that Ben showed me clearly helped chisel my features and bring out my cheekbones without looking like I just worked in the coal mines for a week. The color is called Zen and it’s perfect for fair skinned ladies like myself.

See the blush list here: http://www.narscosmetics.com/Blush-C39_category_7.aspx

I also got a GWP.. gift with purchase.. and I think it’s supposed to be some sort of sex oil (hahah) because it really made me think naughty thoughts when I rubbed it on. Let’s just say that the day ended with an Orgasm.. and we are NOT talking the most popular shade of NARS blush.
