Happy Valentine’s Day – Week Recap

Happy Valentine’s Day – Week Recap

Wet N Wild Fergie Lip Crayon Kreamsicle KittyThis week was filled wit love, laughter, and lipstick. I’m going to recap the week’s makeup trials, my amazing lobster Valentine’s Day dinner and day out in the sun.

It was 77 degrees today, and nothing short of amazing. I woke up late (10:30!) and Petey surprised me since he’s usually up at 7 and begging for breakfast. Steve, Petey and I didn’t even leave the house til about 3:30 pm and drove about 40 minutes to Sycamore Grove Park in Livermore. My parents used to take me there when I was a kid every Easter for a picnic. We climbed trees and walked the beautiful paths, skipped rocks with my dad in the little creek, and sometimes we’d catch baby frogs in jars and take them home to let them go in the yard. I wanted to take Steve there to show him this place and bring Petey because he really needs to get out more. We found all the “spots” that I remember and I felt so young and alive.

Sycamore Grove Park in LivermoreMy legs started shaking after walking for 45 minutes and we still had another mile to go. Petey never stopped hunting squirrels (some idiot ran over one with his bike) and had his nose to the ground the entire time. We decided to have our wedding “save the date” announcement photos taken at this park at this very tree. The same tree my dad and I used to climb, and now the tree that Petey and Steve climbed today. All the feels. My dad would have been happy to see us revisiting this spot.

Lobster tail dinnerWe got home about 6:15 and I heated up the oven to broil our lobster tails. Yes, for the first time I decided to cook at home for Valentine’s Day instead of fighting through crowds and noise to get seated. For $10 each, I got lobster tails at our local New Leaf grocery store and some green beans. I broiled the pre-split tails in the oven for about 15 minutes (they were still slightly frozen) after buttering them up with garlic butter. They got a little browned on top, which is what I wanted. The green beans were sauteed in coconut oil with onions, garlic salt, and Coconut Aminos (I’m obsessed with this stuff). We didn’t have a salad because I didn’t know we were out of lettuce. DUH. I had a glass of Merlot, which actually tasted great with the lobster. I think Merlot goes with anything, to be honest!

Ok, so let’s get on with the makeup review. Last week, I posted the Walgreen’s haul post that featured some of the items I purchased. I’ll have to say that I love just about everything, but there was a learning curve. Let me break it down:

Wet N’ Wild Come Correct Celebrity Concealer by Fergie – The coverage is great, although there is no color correcting properties in the shade (no green, orange, yellow tones), it seems to have enough coverage to hide dark circles, pimples, and redness. At first, I used this concealer with eye cream and the new Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. The mascara had smudged and transferred to my under eye area and it looked horrible. I thought it was the concealer causing this issue, but it turns out that the mascara is just not that great. The mascara is stiff, clumpy, and transferred directly onto my under eye area. The brush was not a comb wand like I originally thought.  I am not a fan of stiff mascara; I like flexibility! I can’t recommend this one, but I do love and use the $8 Miss Manga mascara from L’Oreal. When I used this mascara and NO eye cream, the concealer stayed on all day and nothing transferred. I kept my eye cream to the top lid on on the outer corners of my eyes. I do recommend trying this concealer–not only because it is very inexpensive, but because it may be the one you were looking for all your life.

Moving on, I will review another Wet N’ Wild product, the new lip crayons, also from the Fergie collection. Wet N’ Wild Velvet Matte Lip Colors Kreamsicle Kitty (matte light orange) and The Stand Out (matte medium lilac) are the two shades that I purchased. I got a lot of compliments when wearing the lilac shade because it does just what the name implies: it stands out! There aren’t many shades of lipstick like this out there, so buy this one up before it’s gone. The main photo of me on this blog post features the Kreamsicle Kitty shade. These crayons are very pigmented and long-lasting. They aren’t dry or irritating. I did have to reapply my lipstick after eating, but the touchup was minimal.

The Milani Powder Blush in Coral Cove has proven to be a winner in my book. The color really pops and worked wonderfully with my Wet N’ Wild Fergie highlighting powder. I laid the highlighter on first, then followed with a light application of the Coral Cove blush. You could see the highlighter through the matte blush and it looked amazing. I wore the blush with the new $10 Revlon HD lipstick in Magnolia. I own three of these lipsticks and I adore them. They’re buttery and the colors are soft and richly pigmented. If you like the NYX Butter Lip Glosses, you’ll love these lipsticks.

beautyblender cleansing solidOne more product that I want to give a shout out to: beautyblender’s cleansing solid. This is the real deal. This is the brush cleaner that will clean the residue off from three years ago. Ugh. There were some brushes that I thought were clean (used shampoo on them) and they were not! This cleansing solid is a professional grade cleanser for your sponges and brushes. It also softened a brush that was once really stiff when new, which makes me wonder if there was some type of residue on it when it was brand new. This is a five-star product on Sephora!

Weight loss – Auto Immune Paleo is amazing and I feel fabulous. My scale is broken so I don’t know if I lost weight this week, but I lost 2 inches off of my arms and 1/2 inch off the waist. That’s great!

Next week, I’ll be trying Cate McNabb’s new spring collection (creme blushes!) and going back to an old favorite — Mac Studio Fix Liquid Foundation. I also purchased the Mac double-ended concealer/color corrector. See you next week! XOXOXOXOXO
