Bad Review for Maybelline Lash Stiletto
Looked everywhere at Target for my “BFF in a tube”, Lash Stylist by Maybelline. Nowhere to be found. I called my mother immediately, who lives about 30 miles away in another town, and I asked her to go to her nearst drug store and search for my trusty mascara and to buy at least two tubes. “Nope”, she said when she called me back, “They don’t have it, and I checked Target and Longs.” I went online and had a virtual fit. I found the mascara on beauty.com, and I noticed it was on sale. Unfortunately, I can’t find the mascara online right now. I haven’t checked ebay.. =(
So I ordered two tubes along with a bunch of really expensive Frederik Fekkai hair stuff, and ripped open the package to make sure my “BFF in a tube” arrived safely. Yup.. it was fine, and I had not used it for about a month since I could not find it anywhere.. and I noticed that.. nothing, nothing, nothing compares to it. I couldn’t believe how much better my lashes looked, and they even looked a lot darker. I was so happy, yet scared that my little friend in a tube is going to go bye-bye.
Sure enough, I saw the new Maybelline Stiletto Ultimate Length Washable Mascara (Say that 10 times fast) and I am angered that my little lovely Lash Stylist is going to bid me one last farewell.
Well, there it is. Here is the description:

Ok.. so nothing special here. The brush is red, which is hot, but not making ME hot.. so I wrote a letter to our friends at Maybelline about how pissed I am. hahha.. well, I was nice, don’t worry. I’ll let you know what happens.
UPDATE: I have tried and approve of Lancome’s Fatale mascara. It gives similar results than that of Lash Stylist, the only thing I don’t like about it is the glossy finish and the comb does not do a very good job of distributing the product evenly. As far as the end result goes.. it’s almost the same. Fatale is expensive, but I found a tube on ebay a little cheaper than drug store prices. If you have found anything similar to Lash Stylist, let me know and I can post it here.

I have been searching for months for lash stylist, but to no avail. I heard from a Maybelline sources’ mouth that they discontinued the product because it was NOT demanded enough amongst consumers. I see from this page that it just isn’t true! I’m wondering if the product was sooooo good, that we as consumers didn’t need to buy it often enough! OR we were not buying every other new mascera product which came out, in search for the perfect one…because we had it in lash stylist!I have heard that make-up companies will do just that,(although I am not in the industry and have no clue whatsoever)– if a product is liked too much they will discontinue it so the consumer has to spend more money in search of another.
I hope they bring it back, I saved my last comb, and this has been working but not as well, I’m just happy I still had one to save.

I’m using stiletto right now and I like it, but its no lash stylist. But there’s a lot of Lash Stylist’s on ebay and Amazon. I bought 3 tubes and will probably go buy some more before they’re all gone. Maybe if were lucky that cat eye mascara with the same comb as lash stylist will come to north america.
maybelline had the absolute best mascara to hold by their name and they let it go? smart.
i will be returning to the mascara i used before i found lash stylist, which has a fantastic comb but cost twice as much.[$11]
loreal paris volume shocking mascara. great job losing our business maybelline, jolly good! the loreal version is perfect as well but i was sick of the price, now im willing to go back. and i don’t trust anything that isn’t a comb.

Just an update from me: I started using L’Oreal Telescopic (Black carbon) and putting the Lash Stylist brush in it. I really like the formula and the non-clumpy look, it’s not as thick as Lash Stylist, but it’s pretty nice so far. Check it out!
OMG i def know what u guys are talking about. I found something that could kinda replace it. It is L’oreal volume shocking. It has a normal brush with some white volume thing, but the other brush is just like the lash sylist the only problem is that it does not have as much mascara in the tube. try it out and let me know what u think about it

actually, volume shocking was always my alternative, and then if not that (because of the price) it was max factor volume couture (not a comb tho). and guess what? max factor is going out of business and people are discontinuing selling volume shocking (idk if the product itself is being discontinued though) anywho its like OMFG what the hell am i supposed to do?! luckily i have about at least 2 old tubes of each, so i can try em out with other mascaras. but i will take in mind to try out the two mascaras recommended on here: cargos and bourjois. i can tell you right now that no other maybelline mascara will be like lash stylist (except maybe that Malaysian mascara ha) but yeah good luck to all!

Well i guess I will join the RIP Lash Stylist Club. I was soosoosossoososo pissed (spent like 2 hours) in Wal-mart yesterday looking for it! and earlier in the week i was in CVS looking for it, nothing but that dang Stelletto (sp) idc to even spell it correctly. I have 2 combs that i will guard with my heart. My thing is how do we keep them clean and usable?
ok..this is perfect for a commercial! Why not just send this to Maybelline? Surely they would start making it again! I hate the Stilleto and I look like I have nothing on by the end of the day. Lancome I have used before but it is such a wet consistency and gets all over. Please read this Maybelline!

I feell all of you im in search for it myself! I was afraid this would happen. Its the best i’ve ever used and I always got compliments on my long full lashes people would even ask me if I had false lashes on lol… I even got friends and family hooked on it. As a makeup artist I know a good product when i use it and this mascara did exactly what it said and more. I’ve tried soooooooo many mascaras out there and its sad that ALL of them are a dissapointment.
I’m a very, very sad girl without my mascara! I’ve used it for years! I can’t believe they would get rid of a product that was so awesome….
Well, I guess I can keep my fingers crossed… and try to look for a replacement.

Standing in front of the rows upon rows of mascara choices last night at Walgreen’s – knowing full well that no Lash Stylist would be there – I laughed out loud at this thought: HOW ABSURD IS IT THAT ARMIES OF MEN AND WOMEN ARE DEVELOPING PRODUCTS FOR MAYBELLINE AND NONE OF THEM IS GETTING THIS STUFF RIGHT?
It’s both hysterically funny and sadly telling about how big companies are run. These people are paid well. These companies chug along with millions in research and development funds. More in advertising expenditures. And yet… hubris, arrogance, ignorance and plain old middle management incompetence will eliminate a good product from the shelves. Likely some idiot said Lash Stylist wasn’t worth promoting… Who knows? I have no respect for these people. They’re all pompous air heads as far as I can tell. I will, of course, eat my words if Maybelline changes its mind.

Juliana, this was an awesome comment regarding my post on Lash Stylist. I agree with you ten thousand percent. I’ve worked in the cosmetics industry and I’ve seen perfectly fine products go out the door, never to be seen again UNTIL customers started complaining. It took years, maybe even 5 years at the most, to see a product come back in bright and shiny new packaging with an entirely different name, as to trick customers into thinking that this was something brand new. The reason why these things go out is simply because the campaign for that product line ends. The whole “comb wand” phenomenon hit the market a few years ago and I had heard of people getting hurt from using the mascara incorrectly and poking their eye. There could have been a lawsuit or perhaps Maybelline didn’t want to risk it any longer selling the unconventional comb wand mascara. I use my Lash Stylist comb with other mascaras, of course the formula isn’t the same, but I am going to hold onto my combs as long as I can. Companies like Maybelline do not care what people like us want.. they want to sell the “newest trend” even if it sucks, and keep everything looking fresh and new. Nothing in cosmetics is fresh and new, it’s all recycled ideas that are repackaged to look new.
Oh crap, I finally discovered what all of you have known for months when my Lash Sylist tube got near drying out!
I scoured both Walmart and Target in search for an early replacement, thinking that I was smart to plan ahead! After wasting $7 on a Loreal Telescopic, fully knowing that it wouldn’t be quite the same, but hoping that it would, I was immediately disappointed after the first sweeping clump. What a waste! But then it occurred to me like it appears that it occurred to many of us, it’s really the COMB and not the mascara itself. After dipping the COMB into the Telescopic solution, I suppose I’m semi-satisfied…for now. I still couldn’t resist buying 5 Lash Sylists on Amazon and paying $9.99/each. And how come the price went down the day after I bought it?!!! And how come the very black ones are more expensive? Same thing goes with the washable. Hmmm. I will definitely check out my neighborhood Big Lots though. Guess I’ll have at least a total of 6 combs to wash and use for the remainder of eternity! Btw, another fave that I cannot find that was discontinued was the Wet Shine in clear. Tasteless, odorless, and non-sticky. Whatever happened to non-sticky, non-fruity flavored gloss?

Oh my gosh. I’m so disappointed about the discontiued of “Lash stylist”. It was my favorite and I wouldn’t dare to buy anything else. I don’t understand why companies discontiue the products that people love and are willing to spend theiry money on it. Stupid Stupid…. they’re making money off of us and they’d rather replace it with the shitty Stilleto. That thing sucks, I’ve tried and it runs when my eyes get watery. Gosh! BRING THE “LASH STYLIST BACK”.

I have had the same problem with not finding it anywhere as well. It was an amazing mascara! However, I did keep my brush and therefore am able to reuse it. Thanks for the advice though on how to clean it Krista! I will def, be doing that asap!
Also, I was looking around, and I found some by Remmell London, and it has a soft version of our brush, the formula is great, but the brush isn’t as good. Anyways the point to this is that the brush screws on perfectly into this tube and the formula and almost the same! So, for those of you who still have your brushes, I recommend you getting it. I know I have tried it with other tubes and some of them don’t fit. I use it everyday, and it works out great!! Goodluck with the petition! I hope they bring it back, or another company takes notice and puts out their own version!!!! xoxoxox

I see that I am not alone in how I feel about the constant introduction then discontinuation of makeup these days. It’s going on with all health and beauty products. They are driving consumers crazy buying new products in the vain attempt to replace discontinued ones. Since when is this the marketing strategy of our country? They must be making millions on keeping us spinning our wheels and going out of our minds or they wouldn’t be putting so much money into product development and advertising. They don’t care how the public feels as long as it lines their pockets, so I hate to be a cynic about how much attention they’ll pay to our petition. I’ll sign it anyway but I really have no hope that it’ll do much good.
I too loved Lash Stylist. I also loved Sky High Curves, but that got discontinued too, and when I wrote the company about it I asked if there was another product that was similar to that one coming out. They never answered me. They don’t give a rat’s patoot about their customers.
I almost fell over when just this week I found Lash Stylist at Ocean State Job Lot in Connecticut. I bought several tubes. Thanks for the tip about keeping the comb, I’ll do that.
If you think Maybelline is bad, Physician’s Formula is even worse with the constant new product introductions and discontinuations. They introduced several new products last year then discontinued them all and replaced them with “Mineral Wear”. Some of the discontinued products were very good concealers. I could not believe how many products came and went from that company in such a short time. I think one concealer was only out on the shelf for a couple of months before it got discontinued. It’s no wonder our country is going down the tubes if this is the way they conduct their business! What I don’t understand is that in the end consumers will tire of and cease trying new products because they’re tired of constantly having things discontinued. But they’re too short sighted in business to see that. All they care about is short term gain.
Renee: This is so true! The thing that baffles my mind is that my mother still uses the same mascara, Almay in the white tube, since I was a child! There are products like that mascara, that are “staple” products of the company and everything else is just a seasonal or promo product. Like I had posted in another blog (somewhere on this site!) that the “Cat eyes” mascara, which is exactly Lash Stylist, is only sold in foreign countries. Strange!
Krista, you’re right about the “staple” products. Maybelline’s is “Great Lash’ but I can’t believe the hype that it’s still the most popular mascara. Maybe it was in the 1970s when I was a teenager and first started wearing mascara, but I don’t believe it still is. It’s awful and gets awful reviews on the internet but for some reason they still say people say it’s “the best” and will never discontinue it. Go figure. It’s maddening!
I’m so bummed! Nothing even comes close, I don’t even know how there is literally nothing else on the market like Lash Stylist and they just took it away. Can’t believe they replaced it with Stiletto, which, again compares not at all!

I love, love, love lash stylist and have been looking everywhere for it! It’s not in stores though!~ I did recently find the mascara on my favorite web buying site. I am sorry but I can’t tell you which one, just incase I run out (which isn’t likely for a while because I purchased 12 tubes) I don’t want anyone knowing my secret and diluting the online supply!!! haha, terrible I KNOW!!!
But I will give you ladies a little secret. Loreals Telescopic Explosion mascara does give great results as well. It gives the illusion of really long full lashes and separates nicely with no chucking. It’s the one with the small red round brush. I’m not sure if I like the brush because it’s way different to use. The first few weeks I couldn’t even put the mascara on without smearing it everywhere, but now I think I have it conquered (just in time for my order of 12 lash stylist tube to come in the mail) hahaha If I hadn’t found Lash stylist online this mascara would def be my mascara of choice!!!
I have been looking for the Lash Stylist mascara for a while now and finally turned to the internet to see if I could find it. When I googled it this blog came up on my search results. I read the comment way back in Jan. saying that someone found the mascara at Big Lots so I went tonight with little hope I’d find it there because the comment was left 5 months ago but… BIG LOTS HAS IT!! For only $2!! So needless to say I bought at least 5 to stock up! They didn’t have the waterproof kind which was a little let down but I’m going to maybe check out surronding town’s Big Lots maybe they’ll have the waterproof kind!
